14 shops gutted in devastating fire at timber depot

LEH, Mar 16: Fourteen shops gutted in devastating fire at timber depot here resulting into losses worth several crores.
As per police sources, fire broke out in a shop at timber depot here probably due to short circuit. The fire later engulfed the adjoining 13 shops.
After getting information, fire tenders from Army and District Administration rushed to the spot.
Fire fighters along with SDRF, Army and police personnel and civilians managed to control the fire and restricted it from spread to the petrol pump located adjacent to the timber depot.
No injury or casualty has been reported in the incident, while the exact loss could not be ascertained as yet.
A case under FIR Number 12/16 under Section 285 RPC has been registered in Police Station Leh and investigation set into motion to ascertain the cause of fire.
Meanwhile, Timber Union President Ishey Rigzin said that most of the gutted shop owners had availed loan from various banks to set up such units and losses suffered by them will hamper the income generation.
