They said that due to the non-availability of drinking water, the residents are forced to use the river water for day to day use due to which the population turned susceptible to multiple water-borne diseases.
As per the residents, the Government formulated a DPR for a scheme which was named as “Bonichakal-Jeelpora Water Supply Scheme”. However, they said, since 2017 nothing has been done to complete the scheme.
“For this purpose, we have been doing rounds of Government offices on and off, but so far nothing has been done to resolve our issue,” said Firdous Ahmad, a resident of Matipora.
The project with the estimated cost of Rs 4. 69 cr has not been approved even after the passage of more than two years now, making residents to struggle for clean drinking water.
As per the residents, the Monitoring Team of PHE Department also visited these areas, which later submitted its report stating the nature of water that is being consumed by the resident and the incidence of diseases such as jaundice and other diseases. “Even after that, nothing has been done,” they said.
The Water Supply Scheme, if comes to existence, is going to be beneficial for more than 12000 people who are living in these villages. “We are demanding that the project should be approved in the current financial year itself and if the Government failed in doing so, we will be forced to come on to the streets,” they warned.
