JAMMU, Dec 29: Food Safety wing, Jammu of Drug and Food Control Organization today conducted random inspection of various food establishments and challaned 12 of them for insanitary and unhygienic conditions.
A team of food safety officers under the supervision of Dr Parvesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Jammu inspected various fast food restaurants, tea stalls, dhabas and canteens in educational institutions at Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar and New Plot, Jammu.
During the inspections, 12 food business operators were challaned under insanitary and unhygienic conditions and other contraventions of food safety and standard Act 2006. Those challaned were JKTDC Canteen, Jammu Co-operative Wholesale Limited, Ashoka Fast Food, Kwality Fast Food, The Legend Food Point, Tilak Restaurant at Gandhi Nagar, Canteen of Girls Higher Secondary School at Shastri Nagar, Nafees Halal Meat Shop, Jhatka Meat Shop, Raj Kumar Fruit and Vegetable Shop and Rammu Fruit and Vegetable Shop at New Plot.
All the food business operators were instructed to manufacture and sell safe and hygiene food to the public. The inspection team was comprised of food safety officers Pervaiz Ahmed and Hans Raj Andotra.
Meanwhile, Dr Parvesh Kumar also held an awareness camp at Talab Tillo for food handlers and caterers to whom he taught the ways of keeping and cooking food in hygienic way. They were asked to maintain personal hygiene and follow all the norms of Food and Safety Act.
Later, the team also conducted an awareness camp at Fruit Mandi at Muthi Camp, where fruit sellers were asked to maintain hygieniness at all levels and not to use artificial fruit ripener.
