10 more positive in Kashmir, tally 98

One more death, toll 3; COVID cases climb to 125 as 16 test +ve

SRINAGAR, Apr 7: A man died today in Kashmir due to Coronavirus taking the death toll to three so far while 10 more tested positive in the Valley taking the number of COVID-19 positive cases to 98.

A 52-year-old, a resident of Gund Jahinger in Bandipora, who died at SMHS hospital in Srinagar, is among the fresh COVID-19 positive cases in Kashmir. He was admitted to SMHS hospital yesterday and died in the evening. His sample was taken before his death as he was suffering from pneumonia and it tested positive for Coronavirus. He is the third person who died due to COVID-19 in Kashmir in last two months.
Medical Superintendent SMHS hospital Dr Nazir Chudhary said that the man died last evening. He added that his test report for Coronavirus was received this afternoon. The body was not handed over to family yesterday and was kept in hospital’s mortuary as a precautionary measure awaiting the test report.
The man was diabetic and suffering from hypertension. The man who was an orchardist had no travel history and had not travelled outside Hajin for last several months.
Among the other nine positive cases, three are from Lal Bazar area of Srinagar and include 9-year-old and 11-year-old daughters and nephew of a COVID-19 patient who had returned recently from Kolkata and tested positive for COVID-19 on March 17. They were under quarantine at Zakura facility and have now been moved to CD hospital for treatment.
Another case includes a 25-year-old woman from Eidgah Srinagar and she had come in contact with the previous COVID-19 positive case from the area.
Two other persons are residents of Bandipora who were admitted to SKIMS yesterday and included a 23-year-old man who has neither any travel history and nor has come in contact with the previous COVID-19 positive. The other person is a 58-year-old man who had returned from Maharashtra recently.
Other is a 35-year-old man from Tangmarg, a contact of previous COVID-19 patient and a 51-year-old woman from Sopore, also a contact of a previous patient.
Another case includes a 70-year-old woman from Baramulla whose husband tested positive for the Coronavirus last week.
Tenth case is a woman from Bijhama area of Ganderbal district who had come in contact with an already positive case from the area.
So far COVID-19 has claimed three lives in Kashmir. The first person who died due to Corona was a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora Srinagar, originally a resident of Sopore, who had travel history of Nizamudin, New Delhi. The second one was 62-year-old man from Tangmarg area of Baramulla and third is 52-year-old man from Bandipora district.
Out of 98 positive cases in Kashmir, 3 died and 2 have recovered while there are 93 active cases in Kashmir.
Dr Mohammad Saleem said 26 samples were tested at GMC Srinagar laboratory today and two tested positive and 24 negative. He said that 96 reports are awaited and 110 new samples were received by the laboratory today.
And the lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 19th day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of Government orders issued to prevent spread of Coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
Amid growing number of COVID-19 positive cases, police today sealed Eidgah area of Srinagar district. Authorities declared Eidgah area as Red Zone and the police immediately sealed the area to avoid any further spread of the COVID-19. Several people have tested positive in the area.
