JAMMU, Dec 28: Stressing on establishing consumer clubs in the educational institutes for actively involving youth in spreading information regarding consumer rights, the Minister for CA&PD Ch Zulfkar Ali today said that youth can play a vital role in supplementing the efforts to check unethical trade practices.
The Minister said this while speaking at a function organized at Heritage School as a part of Consumer Day celebrations
Mr Zulfkar said that Consumer Clubs will help provide a conducive platform to sensitize and educate the students about various laws and acts envisaged to safeguard consumer interests .
Stressing on holding mass awareness programmes , the Minister said that larger objective of holding these campaigns is to involve more youths in the drive launched by CA&PD ,Legal Metrology Department and Consumer Forum for eradicating all unfair trade practices which are detrimental for the society.
“Well aware consumer can play a pivotal role in safeguarding their interests”, Minister asserted and urged upon the consumers to keep themselves abreast with their rights and responsibilities .
Zulfkar while highlighting the measures taken by the Government to protect consumer interest maintained that concerted efforts will be made to realize the promise of ensuring quality and standard essential to the consumers.
Zulfkar said the survival of industries largely depends upon consumer satisfaction which should be prioritized adding that time has come that local products match the quality standards to break the monopoly of certain brands and provide better options to the consumers at affordable prices .
Director CA&PD G.S Chib, Joint Controller LMD Amar Singh, Deputy Controller Manoj Parbhakar; Tanveer Hussain representatives of Consumer forum beside senior officers of line department were present on the occasion.
