JAMMU, Mar 9: Minister for Consumer Affairs, Public Distribution (CAPD), and Tribal Affairs Choudhary Zulfkar Ali today exhorted upon the administration to intensify checking and effective monitoring for enforcement of various laws and Acts of the department aimed at protection of consumers rights.
This was directed by the Minister while chairing a meeting convened to review the functioning of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department here today.
The Minister directed the officers to maintain proper record of utilization certificates from PRIs depicting whether the consumers are provided ration in time and as per the prescribed scale.
Expressing concern over black marketing, the Minister asked the concerned to keep a strict vigil over pilferage and hoarding of vital commodities besides conducting regular market checking so that the people get quality essential commodities.
The Minister asked the concerned officers to work with synergy besides making all out efforts to further streamline functioning of the department and ensure effective and hassle free delivery of essentials to consumers.
Regarding issuance of new ration cards, the Minister directed the concerned to complete the process within a period of one month.
MD SRTC was asked to provide required number of trucks for timely lifting of food grains.
Regarding quality of food grains, FCI was asked to pay special focus on specifications of items and there is no compromise on quality and quantity of food grains.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary CAPD, Director CAPD Jammu, Director CAPD Kashmir, Joint Director CAPD Jammu, Joint Controller Metrology Department, Deputy Controller Metrology Department, MD JKSRTC, representatives of FCI and Oil Companies besides officers of concerned departments.
Earlier, the Minister chaired a meeting of Wardens of Gujjar and Bhakerwal hostels to review their functioning.
Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare, Director Tribal Affairs, Secretary Gujjar Bakerwal Advisory Board, besides wardens of various Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostel were present in the meeting.
The Minister directed that there should be proper guidelines for enrolling the students in hostels and priority will be given to nomadic and students of remote areas. He asked the wardens to prepare a DPR containing their infrastructural requirements and other needs for better services to the students.
The Minister also directed for their coordinated and serious approach to improve the standard of education in these hostels.
