Zakir Naik’s deportation: Govt yet to get confirmation from Malaysia

NEW DELHI, July 4: The Government on Wednesday said that it was yet to receive an official confirmation about deportation of Zakir Naik from Malaysia.

Zakir Naik, the controversial preacher known more for his inflammatory and hate speeches which had reportedly inspired an ISIS terrorist involved in the 2016 Dhaka terror attack.

External Affairs Ministry had made a formal request to the Malaysian government for his extradition in January this year. Sources said the ministry has been pursuing it through diplomatic channels.

“We have seen media reports regarding the deportation of Zakir Naik by the Malaysian government. We are yet to receive official confirmation from Malaysian authorities,” sources said.  Zakir Naik has been living in Malaysia for the past more than two years. National Investigation Agency (NIA) also said that it has not got any information regarding deportation of the preacher to India and was verifying the reports. (UNI)
