SRINAGAR, Feb 16: Senior vice president of Peoples Conference and former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today said that Zaingeer area in Sopore deserves a separate Constituency but it is surprising that it has been divided and a big part of constituency has been added to Rafiabad without any logic.
He alleged that the Delimitation Commission has violated all the norms while creating and defining new constituencies without taking into consideration population area and terrain. The working of Delimitation Commission is already under questioning for favouring a particular political party as is reflecting in their draft proposal, Vakil said today while addressing party workers in Srinagar.
He said, “I also fail to understand why the names of constituencies like Sangrama, Shangus have been changed and even Rafiabad has been renamed as Rohama Rafiabad. What purpose does it serve?” The senior PC leader said with this exercise, the Delimitation Commission seems working under the diktat of particular party’s ideology and are hell-bent to make demographic changes in J&K as was feared during the unconstitutional revocation of Article 370.
Vakil warned that such anti-Kashmir policies of ruling party will backfire and will not be in any way in the interest of UT or Country. “For how long will you test the people of Kashmir. This continuous disenfranchising of people of Kashmir will further widen the gap between Delhi and Srinagar,” Vakil added.
He appealed Delimitation Commission to call all parties’ meet to get their views in order to make delimitation purposeful and meaningful. He demanded a separate constituency for Zaingeer area.
