Youth lead anti-drug march, mini marathon

Srinagar, Apr 15: A mega unity march and mini marathon were organised here today as part of the ongoing anti-drug campaign aimed at promoting a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.
The event, organised by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) J&K in collaboration with the district administration Srinagar, was held under the “Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan” and formed part of the broader 100-day “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan”.
The programme began with a flag-off ceremony at Ghanta Ghar, Lal Chowk, led by District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO) Srinagar Ghulam Hassan Lone and Chief Education Officer Srinagar Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat.
Over 1,800 students participated in the event, including 1,159 girls and 718 boys, who took part in the march and mini marathon to raise awareness against substance abuse.
Parents, teachers and officials from the Youth Services and Sports Department also joined the rally.
The march concluded at Sher-i-Kashmir Park, where participants assembled for the closing ceremony. Winners of the mini marathon were felicitated with medals.
Prior to the start of the event, participants took an anti-drug pledge, reaffirming their commitment to stay away from substance abuse and to spread awareness within their communities.
Speaking on the occasion, DYSSO Srinagar highlighted the growing concern of drug abuse among youth and urged students to act as ambassadors of change by promoting awareness in their schools and localities.
