Youth arrested with ASI’s stolen service weapon, live cartridges

JAMMU, Jan 27: Bakshi Nagar Police arrested a youth with Assistant Sub Inspector’s (ASI’s) stolen service weapon and live cartridges.
As per police sources, on January 22 this year, a complaint was lodged by ASI Ali Mohammad Wani of JKAP 7th Battalion with Police Post Sarwal stating that some unidentified persons entered into his rented accommodation at New Plot and decamped with his service weapon (pistol) and 35 live cartridges.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 17/2021 under Sections 454 and 380 IPC was registered at Police Station Bakshi Nagar and investigation of the case started.
Taking serious note of the incident, SSP Jammu Shridhar Patil constituted a special team under the supervision of SDPO West Amit Sharma and SP City North PD Nitya to arrest the culprit and recover the service weapon.
The special team headed by SHO Police Station Bakshi Nagar Inspector Manjeet Singh rounded up several suspects and finally arrested the thief, who was identified as Ranjeet Singh alias Raju, son of Balbir Singh of New Plot District Jammu. On his disclosure, the service weapon (pistol) along with 35 live cartridges were recovered.
The recovery of weapon has been affected before the weapon could have gone into wrong hands and misused, and a major tragedy has been averted.
Further investigation of the case is going on.
