Young poets make their mark at All India Urdu Mushaira

JAMMU, Jan 28: The All India Urdu Mushaira, organized as part of the Republic Day celebrations and considered as the prestigious function in J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages’ (JKAACL) calendar of cultural events, regaled the audience at the Abhinav Theatre, here today.
The tradition of holding All India Mushairas in J&K was started by Ghulam Mohammad Bakshi as Prime Minister in 1956, when the national level poetic symposium was held in Srinagar. The All India Mushaira to mark Republic Day celebrations, organized by Academy and held in Jammu, started in 1970s.
The highlight of the much awaited annual poetic symposium in which Urdu lovers in winter capital get an opportunity to listen to leading Urdu poets from other parts of the country as well as the State was the poetry of young poets Umer Farhat,  Atheer Bashir, and Zigar Rizvi from Maharashtra, which impressed the audience for the ingenious expressions as well as the use of Urdu language.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary JKAACL, Dr. Aziz Hajini said that in order to enlarge the ambit of invited poets, no poets from last year’s All India Urdu Mushaira has been repeated. He also informed that JKAACL has extended the Republic Day celebrations to district headquarters also where simultaneous mushairas are being held in different languages, today.
Minister of Law, Justice, Rural Dev. and Panchayati Raj, Abdul Haq Khan was the chief guest on the occasion. The mushaira was presided over by veteran Urdu and Kashmiri poet and noted poet-broadcaster, Farooq Nazki, while Zahid Mukhtar was the moderator.   The participant poets in today mushaira included poets from the other parts of the country; Chander Bhan, Sardar Panchhi, Zubair Ali, Dr. Nuzhat Anjum,  Shariq Kaifi, Madan Mohan Misra, Razia Khan, and   Rashmi Saba. While the ports from the state were  Pritpal Singh Betab, Pandit Vidya Rattan Aasi, Khalid Karar, Umer Ferhat, Dr. Guljabeen Saba, Sajad Punchi, Nadeem ul Hasan, Gh. Nabi Ghafil, Kurshid Bismil, Sultan ul Haq Shaeedi, Nighat Sahiba, Ather Bashir, Parvez Manoos, and Nasir -ud- Din Khafi.
