Young girl murdered, body thrown in fields

POONCH, Aug 3: A young girl was murdered by some unknown assailants and her body thrown into maize fields in Mandi-Loran  area of  district Poonch last night.
Reports said that 24-year-old Shamshad Bi, daughter of Fayaz Mohammed, resident of  Danna Duyian village in Loran had gone to the fields last evening. She went missing and family started searching for her till late evening. The family said that she had gone to attend nature’s call and did not return home. They got worried and started searching.
During searches by the family and the villagers her body with marks of violence could be traced in the maize fields away from her house early morning. She was believed to be gagged and some marks were also visible around her neck.
The villagers informed Mandi police about the matter. The police party led by SHO Mandi reached and after examining spot, the body was shifted to Mandi hospital for postmortem. After conducting all the legal formalities and autopsy on the body, it was handed over to the family for last rites.
The police said it would not be fair to say at this stage, whether she was sexually assaulted or not. The postmortem report was yet awaited. The police said that inquest proceedings have been launched. The investigation was in progress. Some people were today detained for questioning in this connection, the police said.
