Young directors’ series to showcase plays of different niche: Mushtaq Kak

JAMMU, Sept 29: “Amateur Theatre Group has already kick started its series of staging plays in which emerging young directors will showcase their talent in directing plays and these young directors will get an opportunity to choose and direct their own plays in coming months. In the series, Hindi play ‘Andhar Yatra’, written by Govind Deshpande, translated in Hindi by Vasant Dev under the direction of young director, Sunil Parkash Sharma was the first presentation of Amateur Theatre Group (ATG) staged at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu recently”, stated Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee, Mushtaq Kak Director ATG in a press release here today.
Mushtaq Kak stated that next play “Ek Tuti Hui Kursi”, a play by Ismail Choonara, adapted in Hindi by Uma Jhunjhunwala under the direction of young director Sandeep Verma would be staged. Hindi play “Ek Aur Dronacharya” written by Shanker Shesh, directed by Ifra Kak will be staged under the series. Ifra is a passout from Central University Hyderabad in performing arts (Theatre). Another Hindi play ‘Ant Hazir Ho’ written by Meera Kant and directed by emerging director Mohit Singh Chib will be an added attraction. Chib was awarded with scholarship in Theatre by Central Ministry of Culture and he has acted Hindi feature film Sikander and has assisted as chief assistant director of Dogri feature film “Geetiyan”. Safdar Hashmi’s Hindi play ‘Tamasha’ under the direction of Ankit Sharma will be another presentation in the series.
Kak said that Amateur Theatre Group has always been introducing young emerging talent since its inception adding, that in this season, beside artists from ATG, performers from outside will be introduced in the ongoing series.
He further said that ATG is committed to produce new talent in the field of performing arts and young directors’ series is a step towards this direction.
