JAMMU, June 1: One day orientation workshop on “Writing of Lessons on Self- Learning Material (SLM) format”, was held at Jammu University on Thursday.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma inaugurated the workshop and opined that such events also add to the professionalism of the teachers. He further said that such workshops need to be organized at regular intervals to keep script writers updated with the latest in SLM format.
Prof. Dhian S Bhau, Director DDE, in his welcome address, apprised the gathering about the achievements of Directorate in academics, research, extension and reach out activities. He said that since SLM forms a very strong component of distance education the Directorate’s priority is to provide excellent learner centered study material to distance learners.
60 participants from the DDE, regular teaching departments of Jammu University and its affiliated colleges participated in the workshop. Dr Hina S Abrol was the Coordinator of the workshop. Vote of thanks was presented by Prof Darshana Sharma, Dean Faculty of Education.
The first technical session was conducted by Prof Darshana Sharma and she acquainted the participants with the evolution of Distance Education in India. The second session on “Directorate of Distance: an overview” was conducted by Prof Dhian S Bhau.
The third session on “Lesson Writing on SLM format” was conducted by Dr Anupama Vohra. She dwelt on the features of friendly SLM for distance learners. She gave demonstration on the requisite access devices to be included in SLM lesson format. The fourth practical session on preparing SLM format was activity based in which the participants were divided into groups and given tasks on structure, objectives, introduction, content, lesson end matters components development. A blue print of the same was prepared to be adopted after approval.
Prof Desh Bandhu, in the valedictory session, distributed certificates among the participants. He emphasized that such workshops need to be made a regular feature of DDE. Dr Rohini Gupta Suri, Coordinator PGDBM and B Com Program, presented vote of thanks.
