JAMMU, Feb 27: Higher Education Department of J&K Government today conducted a one-day workshop on Entrepreneurship and Startup Awareness at Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar Jammu under the Chairmanship of Talat Parvez Rohella, Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department.
The initiative was taken to develop a critical mass of motivated students with entrepreneurial orientation and skill in Jammu and Kashmir. Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu has been designated as the Nodal College for conducting activities to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship among young students of Jammu region.
Dr Sameru Sharma, Principal GCET Jammu and Prof Ravinder Kumar Tickoo, Nodal Principal, GCW Gandhi Nagar, Jammu were instrumental in organizing the workshop. The Start Up Cell of GCET Jammu collaborated with JK Startups Association to inculcate the entrepreneurship attitude among 400 students from constituent Colleges of Cluster University and GCET, Jammu.
Resource persons from J&K’s Startup ecosystem Sahil Verma, founder of Pure Mart, Arush Mahajan, founder and CEO – via ENS, Ishan Verma, founder of Nentoir Technologies, Vaibhav Sharma, founder & CEO Himalayas 360 & Travelers Dost and Anmol Duggal, founder of Instaawant Empire Private Limited, shared their entrepreneurial experience spread across various sectors including IT, Education, Tourism, Digital marketing, Agripreneurship and E- Commerce.
The speakers threw light on role of entrepreneurship in building the economic foundation of a region. They encouraged the students to be job creators not just job seekers by citing stories of successful startups from India including Flipkart, Ola Cabs, Zomato, Zoho and many more. They made the students aware about the fundamentals necessary for inception, growth, scalability to build a successful startup.
Resource persons from Startup India team Sagar Sengar and GudiPudi Krishna Sharma gave a detailed presentation on Startup India, an initiative of Government of India to turn India into largest Startup ecosystem.
The workshop was also attended by Dr Meenu Mahajan, Prof (Dr) Rakesh Kumar Koul, Dr Kumar Sourabh and Rajni Bala from constituent Colleges and Cluster University.
