JAMMU, Apr 22: The work remained suspended in High Court and subordinate courts today as the Bar Association Jammu observed a total strike in protest against the thrashing and kidnapping of an advocate by some goons two days back at Shakti Nagar.
In protest against the attack and failure of police to arrest the culprits the Bar Association had given a strike call today. The members of Bar also held demonstration condemning the attack. The protestors also accused the police of showing a lenient approach towards the attackers.
They demanded that all the 17 persons responsible for attacking and kidnapping the advocate be arrested immediately and cases registered against them.
According to president Bar Association Jammu, advocate Abhinav Sharma some people attacked an advocate of the High Court two days back at Shakti Nagar puli and kidnapped him in their car up to Tope. He was thrashed by these goons.
He said the police failed to take action and it was only after the interference of the Bar two people were arrested next day. He said after the Bar gave a bandh call three more persons were attacked today while rest are still at large.
He said the Bar is demanding arrest of all culprits and registration of cases against them. He said it is not also known whether the police ahs registered case against those who have been arrested by it or not.
He said a couple entered into nuptial knot and the family members of the girl were opposed to it. The girl filed a case in the court against her parents two days back through an advocate. On the same day when the advocate was proceeding towards his residence, he was attacked and kidnapped by some people at Shakti Nagar Pulli. He said that the advocate in his statement said that the attackers warned him that they will teach such a lesson to him that no advocate in future can dare to file a case for such girls.
This generated a lot of resentment among the members of Bar Association which gave the strike call today.
Mr Sharma said that the Bar Association Reasi also supported the strike call today.
