JAMMU, Apr 22: Normal work in all the offices of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) remained crippled for the second day today due to two-day nationwide strike called by several unions demanding revival of the loss-making BSNL.
On the second day also, all the offices of BSNL remained closed. According to the reports, the strike also affected telephone service in various parts of the State as field staff could not attend the complaints because of strike.
A large number of customers of broadband also alleged that the speed of the internet system was very slow which frequently dropped also. The customers also could not deposit their landline, mobile and broadband bills as the gates of BSNL offices remained closed and the transaction work was suspended.
Though the employees (both executives and non-executives) of all the offices of BSNL staged protest demonstration in front of their office premises, yet the main protest was held at BSNL office Exchange Road, where a large number of employees staged protest demonstration and dharna in front of the locked office complex. The protesting BSNL employees sought public cooperation and expressed regret for the inconvenience.
They raised slogans in support of their demands which included procurement of equipment and other accessories necessary for the survival and progress of BSNL, refund of license fee and liberal subsidy from the USO fund, for compensating BSNL for the loss of about Rs 10,000 crore per year for providing services to the villages and rural areas in the country, start of 4G services by BSNL and making mandatory for the Central/State Governments and PSUs to take BSNL service as was done in the case of Air India.
