Work on mega drainage project for Channi all set to begin

JAMMU, Mar 31: With the completion of all formalities and allotment of job, work on mega drainage project for Channi Himmat area in Jammu is all set to begin within days.
The drainage package of Rs 15 crore will be completed in two years and this is the first project to get commenced under Trenche-II of Asian Development Bank (ADB) and being executed by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA), authoritative sources informed the Excelsior.
Other mega projects like Bikram Chowk Flyover, under Trenche-II (Loan 2925), are also in advanced stage of tendering and work on them is also likely to be started in the month of April, sources added.
Under Trenche-II, ADB has approved Rs 900 crore worth projects in Jammu and Kashmir, which include a multi level parking complex in Srinagar, drainage packages for Channi Himmat, Gangyal, construction of tubewells in Jammu and purchase of some equipments etc.
When contacted, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ERA, Sourabh Bhagat confirmed that all projects under Trenche-II were in advanced stage of tendering while the Channi Himmat Drainage Package has reached the implementation stage with allotment of work, which is all set to begin within days. “ERA has completed all the formalities and Channi Himmat Drainage Project is going to be first work getting commenced under Trenche-II,” he added.
Under the Channi Himmat drainage project, channelisation of storm water drains will be done by upgradation of existing drains and construction of new ones, particularly on three main roads in the area, sources explained.
According to sources, the price bid for Bikram Chowk flyover has also been formally approved by the ADB headquarters in Manila. Following its clearance, it will take hardly two weeks for completion of remaining formalities for allotment of job to the successful bidder and then commencement of the work, sources added.
The upcoming flyover from Bikram Chowk to Government Women College Gandhi Nagar will be completed in three years and total cost of the project is Rs 95 crores.
Similarly, the price bids for Gangyal drainage project and construction of tubewells in Jammu, worth Rs 55 crore and Rs 23 crores, respectively, have been forwarded to ADB headquarters in Manila and the same are likely to be received back here after their formal approval by ending April, sources said.
