Women hold key to victory in Jammu-Reasi seat

JAMMU, Apr 28: Women voters hold key and will determine the victory of candidates in Jammu-Reasi Parliamentary constituency that went to polls in the second phase on April 26 along with 88 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country.
As per data, the participation of women in casting their vote in Jammu -Reasi Lok Sabha constituency was 72.71 percent while that of their male counterparts was 71.76 percent indicating the women will hold key to the victory among the contesting candidates.
The highest turnout of women voters was witnessed in Samba district of the constituency while Chhamb in Assembly Segment in Jammu district the women voters dominated their male counterparts in casting the vote. In this constituency 40,000 women turned up for voting while the number of male who cast their vote was 39614.

In a display of women power, (Nari Shakti) exclusively women-staffed booths, known as “pink booths,” witnessed a surge in female voters amidst stringent security measures in the Samba district of the Jammu -Reasi Lok Sabha constituency.
The allure of the “Pink Booths” saw an upward trend in female participation, with 69 per cent of voters exercising their franchise as the polling progressed till 7 pm in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Samba district.
Samba registered a record voter turnout at 75.2 per cent in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, held peacefully in three Assembly constituencies of Samba district.
While 76.89 per cent of the total female electorates exercised their franchise, it was 73.60 per cent among men.
The main cause of upward trend in female participation in the district was due to extra ordinary measures taken by the district administration and election authorities. First time in the Lok Sabha elections this year nine Pink Polling booths were set up in the district to motivate more and more females to participate in the polling .
Out of nine Pink Polling booths, one each was located in Ramgarh and Vijaypur Assembly segments while seven were set up in Samba Assembly segment. All the Pink Booths were manned by women staff including Presiding Officers, polling officers other staff and security personnel to motivate more and more women to participate in exercising their right to franchise.
As per the data in Ramgarh Assembly segment, out of 88519 voters with 45202 male and 43317 females, 32645 male voters cast their vote while the number of female voters exercising their franchise was 33982 showing a percentage of 72.22 for male and 78.44 for female.
In Samba Assembly segment with a total number of 90794 voters with 46548 male and 44246 female voters, 34016 male and 33828 females exercised their right to franchise determining a percentage of 73.07 for male and 76.45 for female voters.
In Vijaypur Assembly segment of the district having a total number of 79885 voters with 41111 male and 38773 female, the number of women voters who exercised their franchise was 29330 while that of male was 31126 with a percentage of 75.64 male and 75.71 female.
Officials said that in a bid to boost female voter turnout, the district administration under the supervision of DEO, Abhishek Sharma organised various programmes under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme (SVEEP) in every nook and corner of district Samba and also established special polling stations across all Assembly constituencies.
These Polling Stations, identified by the district administration, were decorated and categorized into Pink, Green, Youth, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), young voters, model and unique booths. Different departments were assigned to decorate the Polling Stations to facilitate the voters.
These Polling Booths attracted voters to the Polling Stations and maximum voters cast their vote.
These booths were managed by women officials. Kids zone and waiting room for women were also set up at Pink Polling Stations to facilitate the lactating mothers and kids up to the age of six years. PwDs booths were managed by persons with disabilities. These booths were decorated using banners and artwork. Young voters’ booths were also attractive, where famous personalities’ portraits were drawn. Young officers managed the booths. Youth players’ portraits were painted in the booths.
Among unique Polling Stations, one Polling Station was set up at Papar Avtara which was decorated with themes reflecting Tribal culture. Expenditure Observer also visited this Polling Station. These Tribal voters did not migrate to their Dhoks and were impatiently waiting for 2nd Phase of Lok Sabha elections and 89% votes were exercised in this polling station.
Likewise in other parts of constituency in Gulabgarh Assembly segment of Reasi district out of 94313 voters including 49226 male and 45085 female, 36876 male and 32843 female exercised their franchise. In Reasi constituency of the same district out of total 85212 voters 44757 male and 40454 females, 32948 male and 30270 females exercised their franchise. In Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Assembly constituency of the same district, out of 55737 voters including 29340 male and 26397 female, 23405 male and 20652 female cast their vote.
In Bishnah Assembly segment of Jammu district having a total number of 118855 voters including 62911 male and 55943 female, 47,986 male and 44519 female exercised their franchise. In Suchetgarh constituency of Jammu district having a total number of 113480 voters with 59707 male and 53771 female 42227 male and 41038 female turned up for voting.
In RS Pura constituency of Jammu South out of 124744 total voters including 64687 male and 60054 female voters 43903 male 41064 female exercised their franchise. In Bahu constituency of Jammu district, out of 121488 total voters having 62271 male and 59207 females, 39447 male and 36284 females cast their vote.
In Jammu East Assembly segment having 106878 total voters with 53882 male and 52994 females 36685 male and 33830 females exercised their franchise. While in Nagrota Assembly segment with a total number of 95567 voters having 49575 male and 45992 females, 37370 male and 34918 females exercised their franchise.
In Jammu West Constituency having a total number of 105644 voters with 53601 male and 52043 females 34492 male and 31870 females cast their vote. In Jammu Norths constituency with a total number of 19410 voters comprising of 56166 male and 53242 female voters, 38365 male and 35354 females cast their vote.
In Marh constituency of Jammu district out of 93334 total voters having 48675 male and 44658 females, 38649 male and 35394 females cast their vote. In Akhnoor Assembly segment having 94895 voters with 48653 male and 46240 females 37535 male and 36733 females cast their vote indicating the number of women in percentage was more than men in this constituency.
In Chhamb constituency of Jammu out of 105094 voters with 53860 male and 51234 females 39614 male and 40,000 female voters exercised their franchise while in Kalakote Sunderbani Assembly segment of Jammu-Reasi constituency out of 96986 voters including 50923 male and 46062 females, 33734 male and 33188 female voters cast their vote.
Out of total 1780835 voters in the entire Jammu-Reasi Parliamentary constituency, having 921095 male and 859712 females 660938 male and 625108 female voters exercised their franchise.
