JAMMU, May 26: Spokesperson & Prabhari Mahila Morcha BJP J&K, Priya Sethi today said that it is for the first time that women voter turnout which used to be historically low, is roughly the same as that of men (about 67 per cent) in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
She also said that now a record high 78 of the 542 seats in the Lower House of Parliament are with women.
Priya Sethi said this while celebrating historic win of BJP with women of Jammu East at Purani Mandi where hundreds of women were dancing and distributing sweets.
The main women leaders who participated in celebrations included Savita Anand, Indu Bala, Saroj Gupta, Sharda Devi, Neeru Anand, Darshana Sharma, Sonia Arora, Sunita Didwal, Rubeena Akhter and others.
Sethi called it unfortunate that Congress while ruling for several decades never focused on women participation as voters or in making them law makers.
“Modi Government framed new schemes and improved the existing ones to empower women,” she maintained.
Priya further said that it is for first time that Modi led Government’s flagship schemes focussed on women of India and programmes like Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Ujjwala Yogna, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jan Dhan Yogna etc had women as beneficiaries.
