JAMMU, Aug 26: Women sub-committee of Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association (NZIEA) representing women LIC employees of Jammu & Kashmir held a women convention at Press Club, here today.
Women LIC employees from Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Udhampur and Doda were present in the convention, which was organized under the leadership of Neelam Sharma, convener of women sub-committee of J&K.
On this occasion, women convener of North Zone Neeta Singhal from Delhi was chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Neeta Singhal lambasted on the policies of the Union Government which have led to the continuous worsening condition of the women workers, violence against women, sexual harassment at work place and other issues adversely affecting the women in society.
She demanded 33% reservation of women in parliament and State Assemblies at the earliest. She also stressed for implementation of child care leave for a period of two years for women in LIC. She also demanded to enhance the family pension to 30% of basic pay which has already been pending with the Government for the last nearly four years.
Neelam Sharma, convener of J&K, also spoke at length about violence against women with reference to Manipur, against increasing crimes against women and asked the women to be united and struggle for their rights while Pawan Gupta demanded strongly to scrap the NPS and implement Old Pension Scheme for all, as the OPS gives social security in old age.
Others who spoke were Sushma Jamwal (co-convener), Anuradha Gupta, Shunali Gupta and Priya Sharma (all members), Neeraj Bhagat, Surbhi Sharma, Gaganmeet Kour, Madhul Saini and others.
NZIEA Divisional Committee Srinagar leadership namely Rajesh Gupta and Raj Kumar Sharma (joint secretaries), Dinesh Sharma (vice president), Rajesh Kumar (treasurer), Mohan Lal and Raj Kumar were special guests on the occasion.
