RAJOURI, Apr 15: Tension gripped the Kotranka town of district Rajouri after the suspicious death of a woman hailing from Reasi district, prompting protests and raising serious concerns over administrative functioning and public safety at large.
The deceased has been identified as Raqiya Bano, wife of Ghulam Rabbani, a resident of Tuli Bana village in Tehsil Chasana of Reasi district. She reportedly died under suspicious circumstances late last night at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Kotranka.
According to family members, Raqiya Bano had consumed food at a Dhaba in Budhal, following which her health suddenly deteriorated. As her condition worsened, she was taken to a Medical shop in Daraj area, where she was administered an injection. However, her condition did not improve, and she was subsequently shifted to CHC Kotranka in a vehicle, where doctors declared her brought dead.
The incident triggered strong reaction and protest, with large numbers of people, including relatives and local residents, gathering outside the hospital, demanding justice and a thorough probe into the circumstances leading to her death.
Taking serious note of the matter, the police sealed the concerned hotel at Budhal as well as the Medical store at Daraj village as part of the initial investigation. Police officials stated that inquest proceedings under suspicious circumstances have been initiated, and the exact cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem report is received.
On the directions of ADC Kotranka, Dil Mir, the post-mortem examination was conducted by a team of doctors at CHC Kotranka.
Meanwhile, the family members and locals have raised serious allegations against the Consumer Affairs Department, accusing it of failing to conduct regular inspections. They alleged that substandard food is being served at hotels and dhabas in the area, posing a threat to public health. Concerns were also raised over the illegal practice of administering injections at Medical stores, which is a clear violation of established Medical norms.
