Woman’s murder solved, one arrested

MENDHAR, Dec 21: With the arrest of one accused, the police has solved the murder  of Shehnaz Akhtar  at village Chhunga in tehsil Mendhar of Poonch district.
SP Poonch, Shamsheer Hussain said that the police party under the supervision of SDPO Mendhar,  Amit Bhasin has solved the murder of woman, Shehnaz Akhtar, wife of Late Mohd Rafiq which took place at Chhunga Charoon on December 14, 2012.
He said after questioning of several suspects, the police team managed to arrest one of the accused namely, Gulnaz, daughter of Naseem Ahmed of the same village. The prime accused was still evading arrest but he has been identified. He avoided to reveal his name on the plea that it may hamper investigation. The accused is said to be a relative of the deceased woman and will be nabbed shortly, the SP maintained.
He further said that the deceased was raped before being murdered and the Medical report has been received from the concerned Medical Officer, who conducted postmortem on the body. Dr Parvez Ahmed Khan (MO) also confirmed that the deceased was raped and murdered as per medical examination of her body. Dr Parvez said that he handed over the report to the concerned police on December 16.
The SP said that  a case FIR No. 205/2012 under Sections 302/376 RPC has been registered against the accused in this connection.
Meanwhile, SDPO Mendhar Mr Bhasin while clarifying a report regarding unsolved five murder cases in Mendhar, claimed that one of the case pertained to suicide and not murder while in another case, a skelton of an elderly man was recovered from jungle. In such cases inquest proceedings are launched and can not be termed as a murder case. He however, said that in three other cases the police is initiating investigations under  Section 174 CrPC. He said in view of late receipt of report from FSL Jammu, the cases are often delayed and it is not happening only in this district but same is the situation in other nine districts of the region.
