According to the reports, the deceased woman identified as Vandana Sharma (27) wife of Rajeev Sharma, resident of Resham Ghar Colony, Jammu, who was pregnant, was admitted in labour room of SMGS Hospital Jammu on April 19 after she fell down accidentally at her residence.
On examination of the woman, the doctors there told the family that the baby had died in the womb. The woman was operated on Sunday night by the gynecologists of the Hospital who referred her to ICU of GMC Jammu on Monday morning after the condition of the woman deteriorated.
The woman passed away late last night in GMC Jammu, following which the family members, relatives and neighbours of the deceased staged a protest this afternoon at Maheshpura Chowk with the body keeping on the road. Raising slogans against the doctors of SMGS Hospital and GMC, they alleged that the woman died due to negligence of doctors, first at SMGS Hospital and then at GMC Jammu.
They said that the deceased was not provided timely treatment at SMGS Hospital due to which her condition deteriorated and when the case became critical, they referred the patient to GMC Jammu, where her condition further deteriorated due to casual approach of the doctors.
The protest continued for about four hours, disrupting vehicular traffic on the busy road for many hours. On getting information, a police team from police station Bakshi Nagar also reached the spot but it failed to pacify the protestors, who were demanding a magisterial inquiry into the matter, compensation for the family and Government job for husband of the deceased.
The irate family members and relatives of the deceased lifted the blockade only after the visit of senior police officers and Tehsildar Jammu Khaas, Ravi Shanker, who assured the family that their demands will be taken up with the DC Jammu for proper redressal.
Later, postmortem of the body of the deceased woman was conducted under the supervision of a board of doctors constituted by Principal, GMC Jammu and the body was handed over the family for last rites.
