Woman shot at by militants

Srinagar, Sept 28: A 42-year old woman was injured after she was shot at by suspected militants in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district late this evening. Police blamed local militants for the attack.
A police official told Excelsior that the woman identified as Shakeela, wife of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, who is former militant, was shot by two “militants” inside her house at around 8:30 pm. She was hit in leg.
“The militants were talking to her husband after barging into her house. They reportedly asked him to accompany somewhere but he refused and in the meanwhile, the woman had a scuffle with the militants and they fired upon her and fled from the spot,” the police official said.
The woman was immediately rushed to hospital where she was operated upon. Sources said the woman is out of danger but is being monitored by doctors.
Soon after the attack, the contingents of security forces including police, Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rushed to the spot and cordoned off entire area. The forces carried out a search operation but no one was detained or arrested.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Kashmir Range termed the attack as “cowardly Jihad” and blamed militant group led by 21-year old Burhan Muzzafar Wani for the attack. He said a probe has been started into the attack.
