Woman, 8-month-old child killed in road mishap

JAMMU, Aug 27: A woman and her eight-month-old child were killed while her husband was injured when the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a truck near Nandni under the jurisdiction of Jhajjar Kotli Police Station.
Police spokesman said, a motorcycle borne family was hit by a truck (JKO1R 2891) this afternoon, which was on the way from Garhi, Udhampur to Jammu near Nandni.
He said the woman identified as Ritu Kour and her daughter Honey died on the spot while her husband Somi Singh, son of Mohan Singh residents of village Garhi, district Udhampur was shifted to hospital, from where he was later discharged.
The truck driver fled from the spot leaving behind the vehicle, while a manhunt was on to nab him, spokesman said, adding, that a case under relevant Sections has been registered at Jhajjar Kotli Police Station and investigations were in progress.
Meanwhile, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrim was crushed to death by an unknown vehicle at Supwal area of district Samba.
Identified as Hira Lal, son of Amarnath of Haryana, he was heading towards Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, when an unknown vehicle hit the cycle he was riding at Supwal, district Samba.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered and investigations started.
