With host of issues in mind, first time voters exercise franchise

RAMBAN, Dec 1: Enthusiasm was witnessed among the first time voters in Banihal area during the second phase of DDC elections today as they participated in the battle of ballot with long list of issues in their mind.
“I want to see changes in the health and sanitation sector. Moreover, I want the DDC member to immediately start paying attention towards pitiable condition of roads and lanes”, a first time voter Afiya Tabassum, a student of BA Part Ist in Government Degree College (GDC) Banihal said after casting vote.
Enthusiastic student further said, “the people generally claim that their issues are rarely get noticed but I have already projected a host of issues before the candidate of my choice during the campaigning so that after winning he starts working for their resolution”, adding “if some other candidate wins I will bring the issues before him also”.
“I have fulfilled my responsibility of participating in the democratic exercise with the hope that the winning candidate will come up to our expectations”, said Asiya Riyaz, a college student said, who cast his vote at Nowgam Polling Station where long queue of the voters was witnessed.
“All the candidates in the fray are locals as such they are well versed with our issues. Moreover, they can be easily approached for any sort of developmental work and we are hopeful that situation will be better this time”, another first time voter said after casting vote at Tethar Polling Station.
“Lack of cleanliness is a major issue in our area and the DDC member will have to pay serious attention towards this”, Riyaz Ahmed Naik, a resident of Duligam said while as Shafita Bano, another voter, laid stress on paying serious attention towards deplorable condition of roads, water shortage and irregular power supply.
While first time voters were hopeful of early resolution of problems of their areas, the elderly voters were still doubtful about the commitment of the candidates whom they voted and said, “we have see so many elections but the ground situation has not improved”, adding “despite being disappointed on developmental front we are voting once again just to fulfil out duty”.
