JAMMU, Apr 28: The statement of Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy,  Dr Farooq Abdullah has evoked strong protest with activists of Bajrang Dal and other organizations taking to streets and torching the effigies of the NC leader.
The State VHP while reacting to Dr Abdullah’s statement termed his remarks that “if India does not remain secular, then I challenge that Kashmir will not be a part of India as Kashmiris do not accept communalism and those who voted for Modi should jump into sea” said it reveals the frustration on the part of NC leadership due to increasing popularity of BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate.
VHP State president, Dr Rama Kant Dubey at a press conference said that India is secular from day one even prior to its independence and it does not need any certificate from Dr Abdullah.
Dr Dubey said J&K is an integral part of India and no body on earth can change this status. The accession is full and final and Article 370 a temporary provision in the Constitution.
Dr Dubey said that J&K is not personnel property of Abdullahs’ and the statement of Dr Abdullah shows his total frustration. He also accused Congress of backing the NC leader and urged it to clarify the stand.  He has also sought the intervention of ECI in the matter and action against Dr Abdullah for such irresponsible statement.
The BD activists held a massive protest at Jammu under the leadership of Naveen Sudan and Rakesh Sharma convener and co convener BD respectively. The protestors raising slogans against Dr Abdullah demanded that he be debarred from contesting elections. The protestors also torched the effigy of Dr Abdullah at various places.
The protests by BD were also held at all district headquarters in Jammu province.
BJP Legislative party leader Ashok Khajuria while condemning the statement of Dr Abdullah termed it highly objectionable in a statement issued here today, he said Narendra Modi does not need any certificate from Dr Abdullah. He said why Dr Abdullah is crying on Gujarat riots and maintaining a stic silence on mass exodus of KPs from Valley who are craving for last 25 years to return to their homes.
At Poonch Youth Club and BD held a joint protest against Dr Abdullah and torched his effigy.
Meanwhile some KP organisations including Panun Kashmir, JKVM, KPC etc have also expressed their strong resentment over the statement of Dr Abdullah.
Panun Kashmir which held a meeting here today under the leadership of its president Ashwani Chrungoo has strongly condemned the statement of Dr Abdullah. The meeting reminded Dr Abdullah that the biggest minority community of Kashmir, the Kashmiri Pandits suffered due to the majority communalism in Valley all along. The NC rule in J&K State nourished the roots fundamentalism and secessionism. It said the KPs were subjected to social exclusion, political marginalization and economic squeeze during the NC/Congress rule in the State. The way the minority community was hounded from Kashmir speaks volumes about the secularism in Kashmir.
Convener PK Dr Agnishekhar while condemning the outbursts of NC president said Dr Abdullah has now come into true colours. He said his statement can be a surprise for the Indian leadership but not the PK as it was NC which was responsible for the mass exodus and the plight of the community.
Dr Agnishekhar said by saying that those who voted for Modi should jump in river was an obvious reference to KPs as the community enmass voted for him as it stands that a strong man should head the nation.
PK leader said that since 1931 NC pursued the policy of communalism in disguise. In this regard he made a reference to Atash Chinar an autobiography of NC founder Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah in which the Pandits were described as Fifth columnists. This was the philosophy and mindset which misguided the Kashmiri youth, he added.
Recalling the Vandhhama speech of Dr Abdullah, Dr Agnishekhar said that he termed J&K a Muslim majority state when the Pandits protested outside the Civil Secretariat against the massacre. He also recalled the speech of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during 2008 Amarnath land row in Parliament when he said that not an inch of the land will be given.
JKVM while taking serious exception to the NC leader’s touting the secularism after having failed every test to protect the minority Hindus  of Kashmir pointed out that beginning with their exile to their continued displacement and the protection of their temples and shrines, Kashmiri leadership has not shown any secular sensitivity towards the minority Hindus.
The JKVM in its meeting here today held under the chairmanship of Dr R L  Bhat said that instead of providing succor to the people living as refugees in their own land, the solution of their problems including their return has been left to the mercy of the separatist leadership and agenda. The State Government has been acting in a communal and partisan manner in neglecting the plight of the minority Hindus of Kashmir.
PK leader Ramesh Manwati while condemning the statement said that NC was responsible for the mass exodus of Pandits as it was ruling the State when the turmoil started in Kashmir in 1989-90 leading to mass exodus of the Pandits. He denied that exodus took place after Jagmohan took over the reigns of the State and said that it had started after the killing of veteran BJP and KP leader Tika Lal Taploo in September 1989 when Farooq Abdullah was the Chief Minister.
KPC chief Kundan Kashmiri while condemning the statement of Dr Abdullah said that he has come into true colours. Kashmiri said that Dr Abdullah instead of teaching Narendra Modi secularism should himself practice this doctrine. Kashmiri while terming Jagmohan as the saviour of KPs said that it was the NC’s politics of hatred that breeded separatism in Kashmir.
APMCC chief Vinod Pandit also condemned the statement saying that Narendra Modi does not need a certificate from Dr Abdullah. He asked NC leader not to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere by his provocative speeches just to seek votes.
