Whither Jhajjar Kotli Barrage Project?

As we know, Jajjar Kotli is the nearest picnic spot to Jammu which is in dire need of the attention of the Tourism Department and other concerned Government agencies for its overall development. In June 2010 foundation stone of Rs.8 crore worth project was laid , the work of which was allotted to Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Limited and some ‘earnest money’ of Rs.1.80 crore too was released in advance for building a barrage. It is quite unbelievable that nothing of any sort has so far been done in respect of this project.
It is again unbelievable that the Department of Irrigation and Flood Control seems to have forgotten about the project as all these nine years no one took any pains to find out the status of the much hyped barrage. It is only during the sojourn of some officials in respect of “Back to Village’ campaign that the people of the area gave vent to their feelings and expressed their indignation over the attitude of the Government towards Jajjar Kotli. Hopelessly, inter departmental buck passing , failure in taking decisions, no follow-up and no accountability, emotional pent up driving sanctioning prestigious projects to keep in cheerful mood the public for some moments without funds backing and lack of associated support, has all along been the culture of the working in Jammu and Kashmir. New National Highway, spot carrying tourist attraction, proximity of distance to Jammu etc demand developing Jajjar Kotli as a model tourist spot. Could the State administration look into the issue and settle it at the earliest?
