KATHUA, Apr 21: The wheat crop spreading over 70 kanals of land in village Gadyal of Mareen tehsil in Kathua district was destroyed completely in devastating fire that engulfed the wheat fields this afternoon.
The fire also completely destroyed three pump sets and a Kulla, police said.
Though fire tender from Mareen was rushed to the spot but it took some time in reaching there due to lack of road connectivity .
The SDM Mareen when contacted said that the team of Revenue officials reached the site soon after hearing about the fire incident and made a complete assessment of the loss. He said ten families of local farmers were dependent on this land and they have suffered complete loss.
The SDM said the department will recommend for compensation to affected families .
