Website, E-library of Dogri books launched on b’day of Tara Smailpuri

JAMMU, July 1: To mark the birth anniversary of Sahitya Akademi awardee, eminent Dogri poet and writer, Tara Smailpuri, his granddaughter Samvedna Sharma today launched website link, “www.tarasmailpuri.in” and E- library of Dogri books and dedicated the same to writers, poets, scholars, Dogri lovers and civil society.
Samvedna Sharma, a PhD Research Scholar at University of Jammu and a true follower of Tara Smailpuri’s poetry compiled his all books and put it to public domain for promotion of Dogri. She informed that a last book of gazals written by her grandfather (Tara Smailpuri) is under process and likely to be published shortly.
Tara Smailpuri was born on 1st July, 1926 at village of Smailpur in tehsil Samba, district Jammu. He started writing during his early age and attained maturity in expression also. He made solid contribution towards Dogri literature. He has been conferred many prestigious awards including Sahitya Akademi Award in 1990 for the poetry “Jeevan Lehraan”.
Veteran poet penned three collections of poetry and contributed for the preparation of first three volumes of Dogri dictionary and Dogri -Hindi Shabda Kosha as a co-editor. He compiled first ever books of Dogri idioms and phrases for readers.
He left for heavenly abode on October 18, 2011.
