Srinagar, Oct 29: As police today foiled the People’s Democratic Party march in Srinagar against new land laws and detained over a dozen of its leaders, its president and former Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, while lashing out at Centre said that they won’t remain silent by such tactics and won’t allow loot in Jammu and Kashmir.
Police today foiled the PDP march which they were supposed to take out from PDP office to Lal Chowk. They detained several leaders including Khurshed Alam, Rouf Bhat, Abdul Hameed Kousheen, Suhail Bukhair, Waheed Para, Arif Laigroo,Yaseen Bhat and other senior leaders as they tried to gather outside PDP office which was sealed to prevent the PDP leaders from gathering there.

As soon as the PDP leaders tried to march for protest against new land laws and NIA raids, they were arrested and whisked away in police vans.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that the PDP leaders and workers were about to hold protest march without permission from the Magistrate. “In view of potential law and order situations and terrorists attack, police detained 17 persons”, he added.
Mehbooba said that PDP headquarter was sealed by the authorities after thwarting the protest against the “black laws”. She tweeted: “PDP office in Srinagar sealed by J&K admin & workers arrested for organising a peaceful protest. A similar protest was allowed in Jammu so why was it thwarted here? Is this your definition of ‘normalcy’ thats being showcased in the world?”
The PDP president while addressing a hurriedly arranged press conference at her Gupkar residence in Srinagar said: “Our people in Jammu came out yesterday to protest against the land laws. Today we wanted to protest against it in Srinagar. But, they (PDP leaders) were picked up from their homes last night. And today, when we were trying to protest, our office was sealed. Then I wanted to go and meet them at the police station, but I was not allowed”.
She said that Kashmir has been turned into a virtual prison. “Nobody can talk in J&K, not even the journalists, not even the civil society and not even the politicians. J&K has been turned into a prison”, she said.
“People of Jammu as well as those in Ladakh have understood the need for resisting against the moves of the Government, if that’s not done, they will openly resort to looting in J&K”, she said.
“People in Ladakh protested, they were bundled up in a plane and taken to Delhi and were asked what their issues were”, she added.
She said that the BJP has done nothing except abrogating Article 370. “BJP has not done anything to provide food to the poor, how are they going to buy land in J&K? The poor ask for food, but the BJP tells them to go we have abrogated Article 370, go buy land in Kashmir”, she said.
“We are not Twitter politicians, we are tweeting does not mean that we are not going to come out. They are issuing orders after orders, it is not going to work like this”, she said.
She mocked at Centre and asked them if they have to show their might they should show it to China which has occupied land in Ladakh. “They are trying to portray that they are powerful by issuing such orders, if they are really powerful why can’t they push Chinese back from Ladakh? They are afraid of even naming China-the country which killed 20 jawans on LAC. They are trying all of their power on the people of J&K”, said.
She made it clear that they are not going to remain silent over the loot. “We are not going to remain silent. We are not going to make their plans of looting J&K successful. There is total lawlessness”, she added.
Mehbooba said that Centre plans to handover the land to Corporates which they won’t allow to happen. “They have got nothing to do with the people of J&K, all they want to do is to hand over land to the big Corporates. But we are not going to let that happen. We had thought once the PM Modi is given such a huge mandate, he will take care of the entire country, but look, what has happened to it”, she added.
