JAMMU, July 1: Agitating traders of Ware House, Nehru Market, who were staging protest dharna at Bikram Chowk, here today, in support of GST, gheraoed Speaker Kavinder Gupta, who was passing in his vehicle near the demonstration site.
The slogan shouting traders came in front of the Speaker’s vehicle demanding immediate implementation of GST in the State.  Following this,  Kavinder Gupta came out of his car  and assured the agitating traders that State Government would l implement the GST in Jammu and Kashmir, for which he had  called Assembly session from July 4.
The protest dharna, under the banner of Traders Federation, Ware House/Nehru Market, for implementation of GST in the State,  was led by the president of Traders Federation. Rajesh Gupta and general secretary  Deepak Gupta along with their team of office bearers.
Addressing the protest demonstration, Rajesh Gupta said it was very unfortunate that till date the  State Government has failed s to implement GST even as  it was already rolled out in the entire Country with effect from 1st July 2017. “This failure of J&K Government  has created a lot of confusion and  chaos among the business community as traders are not importing the goods because their GST numbers are still invalid and they cannot import the goods without the GST number,” he explained and added that the situation  will lead to acute shortage of essential commodities and certainly there will be a prize hike in all the essential commodities. He claimed  that GST will definitely help doing business in much more comfortable way.
General secretary  Deepak Gupta said, “We are very surprised to note the delay on the part of our Government  when they are well aware of the losses to the State economy, trade industry as well as the consumers by not implementing GST in J&K State”. “We the wholesale traders of Ware House/Nehru Market Jammu strongly recommend the introduction of GST in the State for smooth running of business and request the  Chief Minister to get the GST Bill pass in the State Assembly session starting from 4th July  2017,” he added.
Federation also requested the Government to abolish Toll Tax when GST is  implemented in the State so that Goods may not get costlier.
Others who were present in the protest demonstration included Ashok Gupta, Dharam Pal Gupta,  Munish Mahajan,  Rahul Gupta,  and  all  members of the Federation.
