JAMMU, Oct 10: Terming the recent storms as disastrous for the farmers of Jammu province, BJP MLA from Marh Sukhnandan Kumar said that it damaged 90% of local Basmati, 70% of Sharbati rice besides heavy damage was caused to the standing crop of maize.
He said that three days ago the heavy storm caused immense damage to the rice crop and maize crop in Marh, Raipur, Domana, R.S. Pura, Bishnah, Vijaypur, Samba, Hiranagar, Kathua and the poor farmers have been left crying.
Sukhnandan Kumar said that the affected farmers should be immediately compensated according to their losses of crops and the loans for fertilizers which they had availed through Kissan Credit Card (KCC) should be waived off as they had to pay back the loans after reaping their crops but all has been damaged and now they are not in a position to even arrange two time meal for the families.
Sukhnandan Kumar said that a farmer is totally dependent on his agriculture and whenever his crop gets damaged it brings sufferings and problems for him. In such a situation, the Government should also adopt a human approach and render every possible kind of help so that they they do not starve.
He expressed hope that the loans availed under KCC will be waived off soon and the poor farmers relieved of the tension.
