JAMMU: The State Sports Council (JKSSC) today appointed footballer Mehraj-ud-Din Wadoo, cricketer Abid Nabi and gymnast Mittali Dogra as junior coaches, in recognition of their contribution in popularising their respective sports.
The decision was made with the approval of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who is the President of the State Sports Council, an official spokesman said.
Mehraj-ud-Din Wadoo was part of the national football squad and now plays for Sporting Club Goa.
Hailing from Srinagar, Wadoo started his football career as a striker with Iqbal Sports Club Srinagar and then moved on to play for J&K Police. He also played for HAL, ITI, Sporting Goa, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal.
Nabi has played 30 first class games for the state side, taking 108 wickets and scoring 534 runs.
Hailing from Sonawar, Srinagar Abid has also played 15 matches in Indian cricket league 2006-2007, as part of Delhi Giants.
Mittali Dogra is an individual rhythmic gymnast and has represented India in international competitions. She competed at world championships, including 2009 World Rhythmic Gymnastics championship, the spokesman said.
Mittali made J&K proud by creating history to be the first player who represented India in the prestigious Commonwealth Games. (AGENCIES)
