JAMMU, Sept 10: Held in the memory of Kavi Rattan, the father of modern theatre in J&K, the two radio plays enacted by Chandrabhaga Sanskrit Sangam, Akhnoor in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art Culture (JKAACL) the mini stage of K L Saigal here today, brought alive the magic as to how voice actors transform the written script to create a tangible world for the listeners.
It was a treat to see seasoned voice and stage actors exhibiting a skillful control in terms of clarity, modulation and diction successfully to enact radio plays written by young and talented playwright Rajneesh Gupta.
The first play titled Buddham Sharnam Gacchami, was about the dialogue between Gautam Buddha and his aunt and foster mother Prajapati Gotami in context with the formation of Bhikshuni Sangha. The play highlights the initial hesitation and then subsequent approval of the Buddha to include women in the Sangha which till that time was only a male domain. The play which recreated the first historic reference of women empowerment in ancient India, was enacted by veteran artist Prof. Rita Jatinder as Gotami, well know stage director an actor Deepak Kumar as the Buddha, Sunny Mujoo as Anand, and Meena Tapasavi, Sonia Upadhaya and O P Shakir and Vinay Sultan as female and male characters.
The plot of other presentation, an adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s famous Kabuliwala, was artistically enacted by Rajesh Raina as Mini’s father, Madan Rangeela as Kabuliwala, Devankshi as
Mini, Sapna Soni as Mother and Nikhil Manhas as Bhola. The background score was provided by Rakesh Anand and Sheetal Dogra.
Earlier, Arvinder Singh Aman, Additional Secretary, JKAACL, in his welcome address appreciated the efforts of Prof Rita Jatinder and thanked her for dedicating the program in Kavi Rattan’s memory.
Prominent personalities among the audience included Anjali Sharma, Director, Doordarshan Jammu, Mrs. Shashi Rattan, Raj Bharti, Brij Mohan and a number of writers and artistes.
