JAMMU, Sept 10: SOS International – an organisation of PoK displaced persons (DPs) today organised a rally at Camp Gole Gujral in Jammu as part of its refugees awareness campaign.
While speaking on the occasion, chairmanship of the body, Rajiv Chuni said that the Gole Gujral Camp was established in 1947 when PoK refugees were forced to leave their native places due to Tribal invasion in several parts of PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir). “The camp is still placed here which lacks basic amenities. The deplorable condition of the Camp presents the ugly face of Government who is keeping blind eye and deaf ear towards the pitiable state,” he added.
He further said that Government has maintained discriminatory approach towards PoK refugees. It is unfortunate that one community is still fighting for justice since 1947 and other one from Kashmir is getting everything from the Govt since 1990. The magnitude of discrimination between PoK DPs and Valley migrants can be gauged by the fact that scores of Valley migrants are doing jobs under Prime Minister’s Special Employment Package and no package for the youths of PoK refugees was ever announced.
The Valley migrants are getting monthly cash relief and PoK refugees are still waiting for it for the last 7 decades; residential quarters, free ration, free electricity for Valley migrants and nothing for PoK refugees. “Is it called justice and treatment to two communities with different yardsticks?” he asked.
Chuni said that BJP is the same party that took out “Refugee Adhikar Yatra” before elections and after winning elections PoK DPs plight is no issue for them till next elections. Every time PoK refugees were considered as vote bank only. He made a fervent appeal to the community to get united and achieve the goal which has been due for the last seven decades.
Lalit Kumar, Roshan Lal, Bikram Jeet Singh, Amrik Singh, Charanjeet Singh, Harvinder Singh, VK Dutta, OP Khajuria and OP Sudan also spoke on the occasion.
