Jammu, Sept 10: Shamsher Singh Manhas, Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha) today kick started the laying of slab on Paloura steel bridge at Patta- Paloura today.
The double lane steel bridge was incomplete for the past few months, but now construction work has been resumed by the contractor.
After kick starting the laying of slab on Paloura bridge, Member Parliament said that this bridge will cater the road connectivity to various parts of Paloura and adjoining areas. Expansion of this bridge was long pending demand of Paloura as people were facing hardships due to continuous traffic jam due to single lane bridge.
Earlier, many times for expansion of this bridge, matter was brought into the notice of concerned officials and department, but genuine demand of people was not addressed. After electing to Rajya Sabha, the matter was brought to the notice of Central and State Government and with stipulated time, I&FC department sanctioned the expansion of this bridge.
“After completion of slab work, approach road would be constructed so that traffic on this bridge should be resumed,’’ said Manhas.
It is pertinent to mention here that on  March 24, 2016, the MP laid the foundation stone of double lane steel bridge at BSF HQ at Patta Paloura.  This steel bridge was built with an estimated cost of Rs 85.20 lakh and out of which Rs 72 lakh was released for early completion of bridge. The construction of this double lane steel plate girder bridge at RD 21900 M at BSF HQ gate on Ranbir canal was carried out by Irrigation and Flood Control Department. Several senior BJP leaders and prominent persons of the area were present on the occasion.
