JAMMU, Dec 30: Virendra Singh, Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer of 1985 batch, has been promoted as Director Ge-neral of Inc-ome Tax and posted at Delhi.
Virendra Singh has served as Commissioner of Income Tax, J&K from June 2005 to July 2009 and during his tenure in J&K the Income Tax collection increased remarkably from Rs 150 crore to Rs 751 crore annually which was amongst the highest growth rate in the country.
The pioneering initiatives taken by him in creating tax awareness among general public in the State of J&K are still remembered. These initiatives were subsequently adopted by the Income Tax Department all across the country.
The cash seizure of Rs 137 crore made by him in the Sahara Group is the highest ever seizure made by any investigating agency in the country.
