POONCH, Dec 30: A scare was created in forward area of Mankote sector of Mendhar after land mines started exploding with the spreading of forest fire this evening.

Official sources said that major fire broke out in Sonawali Gali, in Mankote area near the Line of Control in Mendhar this evening. About 2-3 sq km area came under fire and then mines started exploding. With this, a scare was created in the entire area. The Army went on high alert apprehending possible infiltration from across the LoC. The flames and thick smoke clouds were seen from the distance.
The Army suspected that it may be the strategy of the Pakistan Army to push armed militants into this side, after clearing area with the land mines. Dozens of mines exploded in the area since last evening and the fire was not under control and was spreading in the adjoin areas.
