Srinagar, Apr 3: The residents of Khud Hanjipora village in Manzgam area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district killed a leopard when the personnel of Wild Life Department were chasing it after it had injured few people in the area.
Soon after the incident, a video surfaced in which people were seen gathered around the dead leopard and were rejoicing during skinning him.
As per the officials of the Wild Life Department, the villagers have killed the leopard during an act of self-defence after the leopard entered into the village injuring several people.
Warden, Wild Life Department in the area Rouf Ahmad Zargar said that they have received the reports regarding the killing of the leopard in the area.
He said that the department has been chasing the leopard but was not able to catch it and later it entered the village where it was subsequently killed.
The officials said that a case regarding the incident was registered in Police Station Manzgam.
“We have registered an FIR in this regard and those who will be found to have committed the crime will be booked as soon as possible,” he said.
Those injured have been identified as Abdul Hamid Dar son of Wali Mohammad Dar, Aashiq Hussain Naik son of Habibullah Naik, Mubarak Ahmad Shah son of Siraj ud din Shah, Mohammad Anis Paray son of Bashir Ahmad Paray, Aatullah Naik son of Abdul Rashid Naik and Mohammad Yousuf Naik son of Mohammad Sabir Nayak all residents of Khud Hanjipora village in Kulgam district.
All the 8 injured persons were shifted to District Hospital kulgam from PHC Manzgam for treatment.
Earlier, three days back two persons, including a girl were mauled by the same leopard in the same area.
