UDHAMPUR, Sept 22: A deputation headed of villagers from Jib, Nallian, Thear, Mera, and Fantiyal today called on Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and apprised him of the terror because of leopards roaming in the area.
They informed that these leopards have attempted to attack their domestic animals as well as humans during evening and night hours thus resulting into panic among the people. “The possibility of the attacks by the leopards multiplies during the power cuts in evening hours in the locality while the panic was severely affecting studies of the children, who feel frightened in going to school,” they added and appealed the DC to issue suitable instructions to the Wild Life Department for apprehending the leopards.
The DC issued on the spot orders to the PDD not to curtail electricity during night hours and also asked Principal Wild Life Department Jammu and Divisional Forest Officer Udhampur for necessary action to catch the leopards.
The deputation of villagers was led by Sandeep Khajuria and comprised of Gopal Krishan, Sudesh Kumar, S D Diwan, V C Baru, Sudershan Kumar, Radhy Shyam and others.
