JAMMU, May 31: Senior leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), Vikramaditya Singh held detailed discussions with Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, Danish Rana regarding law and order situation in Jammu region.
Several matters relating to law and order and crime in Jammu were addressed.
Vikramaditya pointed out the need to further increase the scope of the Women’s Cell in Gandhi Nagar in order to deal with growing pressure on this department. Vikramaditya pointed out that it is a matter of grave concern that use of drugs and narcotics is on the rise in Jammu. He cautioned that unless steps are taken to curb this menace, it could become a large scale issue similar to neighbouring Punjab.
He said the menace must be addressed at multiple levels starting with trafficking, distribution network, creating awareness amongst children and parents and setting up of rehabilitation centres.
Vikramaditya Singh offered to lend his name and services in specific awareness camps and forums organised by the Police Department in order to educate both parents and children about the menace of drugs.
PDP General Secretary, Daman Bhasin, who also accompanied the MLC, raised the issue of rotation of SHOs at Police posts on a regular basis so as to create more transparent system and better address local public issues.
IG Danish Rana assured them that all necessary steps were underway and that the department is keeping close vigil of perpetrators of drugs and other narcotic substances in the State.
