REASI, Aug 12: In a shocking incident, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and raped by two men, following which it is feared that she might have committed suicide by jumping into the Chenab river in Reasi.
Reasi Police has arrested both the accused and efforts were still on to trace the victim girl even as circumstantial evidences hint they she might have ended her life by jumping into Chenab river.
The arrested accuseds have been identified as Pankaj Khajuria, son of Dev Raj of Zero Morh, Talwara and Naresh Kumar, son of Dewan Chand of Talwara. During their interrogation, it came to the fore that Khajuria, who was in a relationship with the girl, called her at Baradari Bridge from where he and his friend Naresh Kumar took her to a secluded under-construction house in Talwara and raped her, Police said.
The investigation further revealed that the victim, soon after the incident, went to the Chenab bridge and called up Khajuria several times and threatened to commit suicide by jumping into the river.
A mobile phone confiscated from Khajuria had a vital clue in the shape of an audio recording, which brought to light the gory details of the case. The audio recording was purportedly the conversation the victim girl had with accused Khajuria over phone from the bridge, Police said and further informed that the recording clip has been sent to FSL for ascertaining the truth.
The last location of the girl was traced to the said bridge after which she went missing, Police said adding that massive efforts were still on to trace her even as it was feared that she might have ended her life by jumping into Chenab river. RPC sections related to gang-rape and abetment to suicide have been added to the FIR in this regard at Police Station Reasi.
The victim girl had gone missing from her house in Vijaypur and a complaint in this regard was lodged by her father on July 24 at Police Station Reasi.
During the search of the missing girl, call details on her phone were analyzed and a mobile number was struck out, after which the chain links were connected and the name of a local boy namely Paramjeet Singh, presently residing in Reasi, surfaced. On his interrogation, it came to fore that his friend Pankaj Khajuria was using his SIM and had been enticing the girl since past sometime.
Pankaj Khajuria was apprehended in a raid from his shop in Zero Morh, and during his search, a mobile phone was confiscated and a vital clue in the shape of an audio recording was struck, which brought to light the gory details of the case. Other accused Naresh Kumar had fled to Amritsar to abscond from being arrested and kept on hiding for some days before being apprehended.
Meanwhile, relatives of the girl staged a protest at Talwara demanding severe punishments to the culprits.
