JAMMU, Apr 11: BJP State general secretary and former MLC, Vibodh Gupta in a statement has called upon every section of society to become part of Rajouri Day celebrations. This will be a real tribute to thousands of martyrs who laid down their lives for the sake of Rajouri. On this occasion Vibodh also saluted all those brave soldiers who recaptured Rajouri on April 13 in 1948.
Vibodh further added that this year business community, religious organizations, educational institutions and civil society organizations must organize impressive functions as part of the Rajouri Day.
While throwing light on the series of events in 1947-48, Vibodh said at that time brutal Pak Army in the disguise of Kabailees martyred thousands of innocent people in Rajouri but the brave soldiers of India gave them a befitting reply and finally liberated Rajouri after six months on 13 April 1948.
Since then a great celebration is held every year, he said. On this occasion, Vibodh reiterated his long pending demand to declare Rajouri Day as holiday. He also appealed to Lt. Governor to recognise Rajouri Day and make it a Government holiday for the district in order to enable everyone to become part of this celebration. This will be a real tribute to Indian Army jawans who laid down their precious lives and also the great warriors of Rajouri town for putting up a brave front.
He also appealed LG to rename the event into Rajouri Festival in which local tradition and culture can be projected. Vibodh concluded his remarks by encouraging everyone to celebrate this occasion by lighting their houses, brusting crackers, distributing sweets and by paying floral tributes to martyrs. Government buildings should also be illuminated on the evening of April 12, Vibodh added.
