VHP for two months Amarnath yatra

JAMMU, May 17: VHP State president Leela Karan Sharma today demanded that the Amarnath yatra should run for complete two months after starting from Jesht Purnima to culminate on Sawan Purnima as per age old traditions.
Talking to reporters here, today, Mr Sharma said that no alteration should be made in the duration of holy yatra as the same will not be tolerated by the Hindu organizations.
He said as the sentiments of Hindus all over globe are linked to holy Amarnath yatra the undue interference in the duration of yatra from Government will not be tolerated.
He also demanded that the arrangements for the holy Amarnath pilgrims be made as per the Apex Court directives and the medical facilities including oxygen cylinders for the yatris be made available at the distance of every two kilometers on both the tracks to holy cave.
He said special attention be paid to yatris insurance and in the event of a death of any pilgrim he or she be paid full amount of Sum assured.
Mr Sharma also warned against harassing langar people and demanded that Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) as well as the State Government should fully cooperate with them.
He warned that VHP will not tolerate any impediments in the way of holy yatra and will launch a nation- wide agitation in that event.
Mr Sharma said that the Government and Board should make the arrangements for Amarnath pilgrims on the same pattern which are made by Uttrankhand Government for Kedernath and Badri Nath pilgrims as the religious shrines are also snow bound.
VHP general secretary Dr Sham and senior leader Babu Ram were also present in press conference.
