SRINAGAR : Only one-way traffic will ply from Srinagar to Jammu on the national highway, connecting the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country for the second consecutive day on Sunday to allow free movement of vehicles, carrying Darbar Move officials from summer capital to winter capital, Jammu where offices will reopen tomorrow.
Meanwhile, in view of dry weather and good road condition, the national highway, linking the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir and historic Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south valley with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region are through for traffic.
However, vehicles on 86-km-long Mughal road will be allowed to ply only between 1100 hrs to 1600 hrs, a traffic police official told UNI on Sunday.
He said traffic was on Sunday was allowed to ply from Srinagar to Jammu so that vehicles carrying Kashmir based employees could move to winter capital without any disruption.
The Darbar move, seat of the J&K UT government, including the office of Lt Governor and his advisors and top bureaucrats were closed here on the last working day of October and will reopen in winter capital, Jammu on Monday.
Traffic was also allowed to ply from Srinagar to Jammu on Saturday to move employees, he said. However, on Friday the highway remained closed for maintenance of the highway, he said , adding the road will remain closed for any traffic movement on every Friday till end of this month to allow agencies, responsible for the maintenance of the highway, to undertaken necessary repair work.
He said only one-way traffic will be allowed on the highway till further orders. However, vehicles carrying perishable items and oil tankers will get preference from both sides. (AGENCIES)
