JAMMU, Nov 23: Minister for Hajj, Auqaf and Horticulture, Abdul Rehman Veeri today reviewed the progress on the road widening project from Rajinder Bazar to Talab Khatikan, Jammu.
In this regard a high level meeting of civil and police officers was held under the chairmanship of the Minister here.
Mr Veeri reviewed the overall progress of the road and was apprised that ten shops have already been allotted to the affected shopkeepers in shopping complex of Jammu Municipal Corporation at the same location.
The meeting also discussed other issues of the affected shopkeepers and it was decided that the upgradation work on the road would be taken up at the earliest after removing the bottlenecks delaying the start of the work.
Secretary Revenue, Mohammad Afzal Bhat, Inspector General Traffic Police Jammu, Additional Commissioner Jammu, Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Chief Engineer R&B Jammu, SSP Jammu, Special Officer Auqaf, Joint Commissioner JMC, Custodian Evacuee Property, Administrator Auqaf Islamia Jammu were among others attended the meeting.
The Minister underscored the need for taking up the road widening work at the earliest for the convenience of the people. He asked the concerned officers to take immediate steps for removing structures of those shopkeepers who have been already allotted shops in shopping complex of JMC.
Mr Veeri said that widening of this road was imperative for providing hassle free road connectivity besides easing traffic jams in the area. He said that all the affected shopkeepers would be rehabilitated properly.
The Minister asked the Auqaf and Custodian Departments to take immediate measures for rehabilitation of the remaining affectees by providing them alternate sites. He also stressed on close coordination between the concerned departments so that the obstructions and other issues which impede the expeditious completion of the project are resolved in time.
