JAMMU, Dec 27: Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, called on Governor, N.N. Vohra, Chancellor of the University, at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Prof. Ahmed informed the Governor that all the seats to various courses offered by the University for the Academic Session 2016-17 have been filled up and the next Academic Session (2017-18) will be started as per schedule; all the delayed examinations have since been concluded successfully; students and faculty are attending classes regularly which are now being  held six days a week and the winter vacations have been cancelled to make up for the loss of studies due to the recent unrest.
The Governor also reviewed the outcome of the initiatives which were recently taken by the Vice Chancellor to boost research and extension activities, to fill up vacant staff positions and settle several pressing academic and administrative issues which were affecting the University’s functioning.
The Governor was very happy to learn that the Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare recently awarded the Rs 10 lakh Plant Genome Saviour community Award to the farming Community of Danwantpora and Tangpawa Sagam in Anantnag District. Governor asked Prof. Ahmed to support the awarded community to make the best use of this Award for further advancing the propagation of Mushkbudgi and Kamad.
