JAMMU, Mar 29: A Valmiki Samaj Sammelan was organized by Valmiki Mandir (Anant) Trust, Gandhi Nagar here today.
The event was presided over by President Kaka, who briefed the entire gathering about the annual activities by the Trust.
At the outset, the gathering welcomed the revocation of provisions of Article 370 that provided voting rights, domicile certificates, and citizenship to over 8,000 Valmiki community members of Jammu and Kashmir.
The speakers said that over 8,000 Valmiki community members live in Jammu and Kashmir since 1957 but were denied state subject ship and opportunities in jobs.
Discussions were also held on education of youth. The speakers emphasized that people of the community should send their wards to schools so that they attain required education to sit in competition. The Trustees also informed that Valmiki Mandir (Anant) Trust is mulling to provide free education to girls in coming days.
The youth of the community were appealed to refrain from drug and other addictions and work towards upliftment of the community and society.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Kashmiro, Charan Dass, Satya Devi, Manga Mattoo, Tarsem Ram, Ashima and Baldev.
